What Matters
is the Pattern
on My Skirt

Around the end of April I got stuck in my research paper and I took some of the material to the dining room table on Roosevelt Island, hoping that writing in nature would give me more inspiration. Thanks to the traditional Filipino clothing materials I had spread out on the table, I was lucky enough to run into an elderly Filipina who was visiting her granddaughter in Brooklyn from Alberta, Canada. She came up to me and greeted me, asking if I spoke Filipino. After I explained my research and asked if she would like to have a brief conversation with me, she readily agreed.

"Do you mind if I ask about your name?" "NO, not at all. I am Darna."
